CB Productions to offer classes at the Academy starting in September 2006
ACTING I 7th grade and up "How do you remember all those lines?" Sound familiar? Acting is much more than just memorizing lines and wearing a fun costume. Students in this class will learn the basics of acting such as working as a team, basic stage directions, creating a character larger than life and big enough for the stage, how to move effectively, develop listening skills, and how to work a scene. This is a very active class and only those students interested and willing to take directions and who are open to trying new techniques are encouraged to enroll. In this class students must be willing to actively participate. No acting experience is necessary to enroll - however, students with previous acting experience will learn how to apply what they already know and take acting a step further. The semester will end with a showcase-class that will be open to family and friends on the last day of class. Tuition: Total per semester of $160.00. This class meets for 15 weeks Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9:30-11:00 at Bethany Baptist starting September 6, 2006.
ACTING II: Acting Technique 7th grade and up This class is perfect for the student who wishes to move forward in their acting education. Students will learn how to enter and exit the stage, how to understand transitions, perform stage business, and get experience with "cold readings." We will continue our work through improvised and scripted scenes. The class WILL involve some homework assignments. We will end the semester with a showcase for family and friends. Tuition: Total per semester of $160.00. This class meets for 15 weeks Tuesdays 11:00-12:30 at Bethany Baptist starting September 6, 2006.
ACTING III: Character Development 8th grade and up Ask an acting student what the actor's job is and they will say “to tell a story and to be believable”, but many young actors struggle to understand just how to make that possible. In this 3rd-level acting class, students will learn practical ways of thinking about the acting process such as making choices, understanding objectives and intentions of a character or scene and then gain the ability to communicate this effectively to an audience. Each week will be focused on creating believable characters through scene study and analysis and advanced improvisation. To be a successful actor, you must have an audience, so we will end the semester with a showcase for family and friends. Class size is limited to 10, so register early. Tuition: Total per semester of $160.00. This class meets for 15 weeks Tuesdays 1:00-2:30 at Bethany Baptist starting September 6, 2006.
IMPROV I 8th-12th grades Haven't you always wondered how actors or comedians make things up on the spot in front of an audience? It seems to come naturally, doesn't it? Improvisation is a skill and just like any skill, it becomes easier through practice and by establishing a few guidelines. Students will learn and perform the basics of improvisation through theatre games and situations put in front of them. They will learn how to work cooperatively in small and large groups, create expression through movement, develop quick reactions to situations, and discover a through-line in suggested scenes plus learn how to focus on character development. In this class, students must be willing to actively participate. No acting experience is necessary to take this class, however students with previous acting experience will learn how to apply what they already know and take acting a step further. We will end each semester with a showcase-class that will be open to family and friends. Tuition: $160.00/semester This class meets for 15 weeks Wednesdays 11:00-12:30 at Bethany Baptist starting September 7, 2006.
ACTING IV: Everything about Theatre (Yearlong course) 8th - 12th grades Students in this class will learn about and perform almost every aspect of play production. You can expect to audition (all students enrolled will get a role in the play), read through the script, rehearse, create a timeline towards the final performance, design and collect props, sets, and costumes, manage a budget, design tickets and programs for the final showcase to be performed at the end of two semesters. The play will be chosen by the tutor once enrollment is complete. Students are expected to complete semester I and II since this is a yearlong class. Material fee includes a textbook, script and hand-outs. Tuition: Total per semester of $200.00. This class meets for 2 separate 15 week semesters on Wednesdays 1:00-2:30 at Bethany Baptist starting September 7, 2006 and running through the Spring 2007 session.
