If you are a creative person who enjoys working with extremely creative and dedicated teens and adults in a fun and supportive atmosphere, has good sewing skills, and is able to think outside the box then this project is for you. JOB DESCRIPTION
COSTUME DESIGNER
A costume designer for CB Productions is responsible for staying in communication with the director, designing, purchasing, creating costumes appropriate for the show, working and communicating with volunteers, upkeep during the run and preparing the costumes for storage at the close. You will meet with the director (if possible, the lighting and scenic/set designers as well) to discuss the creative concept, the look and feel of the production and its characters, help decide what each character wishes to convey through his/her clothing (time period, setting, status/social class, age, geographic region, etc).
The costumer is responsible for:
• reading the script and doing research into the setting/period of the production to ensure costumes are authentic to the specific time.
• logging all costume needs for each character and costume changesÖcreating a costume plot for all the characters.
• Managing the costume budget, keeping receipts and making sure we stay within the limits set.
• Working with director to create costume deadlines for photo shoot, costume parade and completion of costumes; presenting sketched designs and ideas for color, texture, fabrics; giving input on the budget set by the director.
• Working with the actor’s-taking measurements for garments and accessories, including wigs, shoes and hats, showing them how their costumes work and what pieces go with what, setting up an organizational system for them to follow.
• Working with volunteers by giving them a clear understanding of their assignment and due dates. Keeping in touch with them. Setting up and organize sewing days for volunteers to help sew (students and adults alike) Working with volunteers giving them patterns, material, pictures and written directions. Keep in contact with them. Assign people to sew, buy, add trim, find accessories, make hats, anything that will help divide up the duties and utilize their time. Keep a logoff all those who donate and volunteer in any way.
• Shop at fabric, craft, charity and clothes shops and/or pull costumes from the theatre’s stock. Purchase material/patterns and accessories necessary, sewing and altering costumes.
• Gather costumes for photo shoots if scheduled
• Be present at costume parade and take notes on what works and what needs to be tweaked.
• Clean and repair costumes as needed throughout the run of the show.
• Gather, organize and bag up costumes closing night.
